Victoria Walk

Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

The 2011 Victoria Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to Vladimir Holub.

Always an adventurer, Vlad has maintained his optimism. When he left his home country in 1968, after it was occupied by a foreign power, he faced the challenges of creating a new future in Canada. That included learning a new language and adapting to a free society. He is a proud Canadian.

A professional engineer from his home country, he also completed a M.A. in Economics from the University of Saskatchewan and then worked as an Information Technology Manager in the provincial government.

Now, in spite of a diagnosis of dementia, Vladimir goes forward with his signature energy and enthusiasm. "Our family has benefitted in immeasurable amounts," says his wife Mavis. "We have increased our awareness of this situation through many workshops offered by the Alzheimer Society of B.C. and have become a part of a big family through the Minds in Motion."
