Penticton Walk
Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
The 2011 Penticton Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to Rose Graham.
Born Rose Alice Sokolski she became known affectionately as "Rosita Chiquita" for her vivacious personality, whether leading a group of singers or being the first person on the dance floor at an Elvis Impersonators Festival. She enjoyed flying to visit family and friends or to explore an exotic new location and although Alzheimer’s became a part of Rose’s life, "it never stopped her zest for life," says her husband, Don.
Rose was able to stay home for six years after her diagnosis at age 70. "The Alzheimer Society made my family and me aware of the services that were available and the information and support we received from the caregiver sessions made us able to cope," Don adds.
Rose was an active member of the community in Calgary, with her husband Don and three children Randy, Bruce and Sandy, until the couple retired in Penticton in 1990.
