Each year, a new team participates in the Ascent for Alzheimer’s fundraising event, a hike on Mt. Kilimanjaro that symbolically represents the mountainous struggle that people living with Alzheimer’s disease, their caregivers and family face every single day.
Last year, on Oct. 2, 2011, demonstrating that support for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease transcends borders 18 Ascent alumni and 10 supporters, not including volunteers and staff, hiked the Grouse Grind at the same time as the Ascent team was on Mt. Kilimanjaro. Climbing Grouse Grind seven times equals ascending Mt. Kilimanjaro!
The Society surpassed the goal of 25 participants, and additional people registered on the spot. The Society raised over $8,000 at the event.
