Potentially Reversible Dementias:
Dementia is a symptom of several conditions which have the potential to be reversed or effectively treated in some individuals. Here are some examples:
- Hypothyroidism
- Vitamin B12 deficiency
- Depression
- Alcohol abuse
- Reactions to medications
Examples of Irreversible Dementias:
Although research into new medications is making progress, there is currently no way to reverse the brain damage caused by the following diseases:
- Alzheimer's disease
- Lewy body dementia
- Frontotemporal dementia
- Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease
